Goshen was settled in the early 1700s & established in 1789. The town is centrally located in Orange County & the county seat is housed in the Orange County Government Center, designed by modernist architect Paul Rudolf, and featured in many books and articles on modern architecture.
Despite this modern office building, the Village of Goshen is a well-preserved Victorian Gem with a variety of shops & dining establishments. A thriving farmer’s market is held every Friday on the Village Green. An active community with 7 town & village parks and an extensive recreation department, citizens enjoy a variety of activities from “Friday free family film festival” to performing arts camp for the little ones.
Affectionately nick-named “Trottown”, the village is home of the Goshen Historic Track, the oldest harness race track in America. Also the former site of the prestigious first leg of Harness racing’s Triple Crown, The Hambletonian; named after one of the sport’s founding sires, born & bred in nearby Chester. The Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame is located on Main Street in front of the Historic Track.
