Prior to 1791, Circleville was a thick forest with a single log house, occupied by a Mr. Coddington. Circleville's post office was established in 1850. There was a blacksmith shop, wagon shop, shoe shop and two creameries. Samuel Bull, Sr., a blacksmith who settled near Circleville, is said to have been employed on the chain used in the obstruction of the Hudson river during the Revolution. Circleville lends its name to a nearby middle and elementary school of the Pine Bush Central School District.
