Highland Falls, formerly named Buttermilk Falls, is a village in Orange County, New York. The village was founded in 1906. Highland Falls is in the Town of Highlands and is adjacent to the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Highland Falls is part of the Highland Falls-Fort Montgomery Central School District. The district has four campuses – Fort Montgomery Elementary School (Grades K-2), Highland Falls Elementary School (Pre-Kindergarten & Grades 3-4), Highland Falls Middle School (Grades 5-8), and James I. O'Neill High School (Grades 9-12).
There is also a private campus, Sacred Heart School, that serves students in grades pre-kindergarten through eight.
